This is a beautiful, bright and colourful ring which comprises three large, deep purple amathyst stones. The amethysts are set on a claw setting and are in good order. The central amethyst measures 5mm x 8mm and the two on either side are just very slightly smaller.
There are clear hallmarks on the inside of the beautifully decorated shank for 9ct Gold, London, 1976

Amethyst, the birthstone of February, is a variety of Quartz that carries a spectacular purple color that ranges from a blend of deep violet and red to a lighter lilac hue. They are coloured purple by iron atoms within the crystal lattice, Amethyst usually forms as a crystal lining of cavities within basalt rock. These crystals all point inwards towards the centre of the cavity and are known as 'Geodes'
Amethysts are considered to be healing stones, and Ancient Greeks believed that they even protected the wearer from drunkenness!
